V4 Agricultural Chambers Meet at the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra

Representatives of agricultural chambers from the Visegrad Group (V4) countries are meeting at the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra (SUA) on 3–4 September. The meeting is organised by the Slovak Agriculture and Food Chamber (SPPK) and brings together representatives from Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary.
The participants were welcomed to the university campus by SUA Rector Klaudia Halászová and SPPK Chairman Jozef Šumichrast. In her opening address, the Rector introduced SUA and highlighted its unique position as the only university in Slovakia specialising in agriculture. She emphasised the university’s broad interdisciplinary approach, which connects traditional agricultural fields with modern biotechnology, economics, engineering and other emerging areas.
“In recent years, we have established a consortium with the Technical University in Zvolen, AgroForestry, and further expanded our focus in agriculture to include agroforestry systems, precision agriculture, nature conservation and mechatronics,” Rector Halászová said while presenting the university’s activities to the representatives of the agricultural chambers.
The two-day programme also includes a visit to the AgroBioTech Research Centre at SUA, where the delegates will learn about the centre’s current research and activities in the field of food science and technology. The delegations will subsequently visit Agrokomplex, the international agricultural and food exhibition currently taking place in Nitra.
The main topics of the meeting include the current situation in agriculture across the V4 countries, the impact of extreme drought and possible solutions to mitigate its effects on farmers at both V4 and EU level.
The discussions will also focus on the challenges facing the dairy sector and the impact of the current dairy crisis. Representatives of the Slovak Association of Milk Producers, the Slovak Dairy Union and the Slovak Dairy Association will also take part in the discussions.
The meeting provides an opportunity for representatives of the V4 agricultural chambers to exchange experiences, discuss common challenges facing the agricultural sector and explore possible approaches to strengthening cooperation at regional and European level.
