The public prize ESET Science Award was won by professor Miroslava Kačániová from the Faculty of Horticulture and Landscape Engineering of the SUA
18.10.2022For the fourth time, the ESET Foundation announced the winners of the ESET Science Award to outstanding scientific and pedagogical personalities for their scientific work and contribution to other areas of life. The ceremonial announcement took place on October 15, 2022 in the premises of the Slovak Philharmonic in Bratislava.
Professor Silvia Pastoreková from the Biomedical Centre of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, who studies how tumour cells adapt to adverse conditions and how they acquire aggressive properties that support cancer progression, became the laureate of the Outstanding Personality of Science category in Slovakia. Miroslav Almáši from the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Pavel Jozef Šafárik in Košice became the laureate of the Outstanding Personality of Science under 35 years. He deals with the use of porous materials in the fields of energy storage, biomedicine and environmental issues. Laureate of the category Outstanding personality of higher education, Ľubomír Tomáška works at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the Comenius University in Bratislava and is dedicated to uncovering ways of communication between individual parts of the cell and identifying molecular mechanisms for maintaining the integrity of the genome.
The public also chose their favourite, through voting for the Public Prize 2022. The Slovak public was most interested in microbiologist Miroslava Kačániová, who was one of the five finalists in the category Outstanding personality of science in Slovakia. Professor Miroslava Kačániová works at the Faculty of Horticulture and Landscape Engineering of the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra and at the AgroBioTech Research Centre. It focuses on the research of antimicrobial activities of plant essential oils and medicinal plants in in vitro and in situ conditions against microorganisms.
