Slovak University of Agriculture and AGRION strengthen cooperation between academia and agricultural practice

The Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra (SUA) and AGRION – the Association of Agricultural Machinery Suppliers in Slovakia have signed a cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening links between education, research and agricultural practice.
The agreement was signed on 4 September at the SUA exhibition stand during the Agrokomplex exhibition by SUA Rector Klaudia Halászová and AGRION President Peter Matejovič. The partnership will focus on education, research, engineering consultancy, development projects and joint promotion.
“The university is establishing a new Centre for Mechatronics and Precision Agriculture within the AgroForestry project. This agreement marks the beginning of joint activities building on the AgriWow project, with further goals ahead. Students will gain new competencies and practical skills to better meet the demands of the agricultural sector,” said Rector Halászová.
The new centre will be a university-wide facility, serving not only students of the Faculty of Engineering but the entire SUA community. It will provide opportunities for hands-on experience with modern technologies shaping the future of agriculture.
AGRION will support the centre by providing access to the latest agricultural machinery available on the Slovak market. “We will respond to the needs of university teachers and, through our member companies, provide the equipment required for teaching. Purchasing such machinery would represent an investment of hundreds of thousands of euros, while the technology could become outdated within a few years. Through this cooperation, students will have the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art equipment,” said Peter Matejovič.
The Centre for Mechatronics and Precision Agriculture will also host specialised lectures for SUA students and innovative training activities for secondary-school teachers. The partnership is expected to expand opportunities for professional placements and graduate internships, improve graduates’ employability and facilitate access to career opportunities.
AGRION experts will contribute to the development and supervision of final thesis topics, with a focus on practical applications of students’ work. They will also participate in state examination committees.
The partners will further cooperate on research projects and grant activities, as well as on consultancy and the development of practical solutions to challenges faced by the agricultural sector
