SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all. |
Our Contribution to SDG 7
The Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra (SUA) contributes to the transition towards cleaner energy through research, education, renewable-energy generation, energy monitoring and measures improving the efficiency of university buildings and infrastructure.
SUA's activities address both the technological and operational dimensions of sustainable energy. Research examines renewable resources and efficient production systems, while campus investments and monitoring support more responsible energy management.
Research and Innovation
University research covers bioenergy, biomass utilisation, energy efficiency in agricultural and food-processing systems, engineering and sustainable resource management. Research facilities and experimental activities enable the testing and development of approaches relevant to energy use in agriculture and related industries.
Interdisciplinary projects connect energy questions with climate adaptation, food production, water management and the bioeconomy. Cooperation with external partners supports the exchange of expertise and practical applications of energy-related research.
Education and Student Engagement
Energy efficiency, renewable resources and sustainable technologies are addressed in teaching across engineering, agriculture, environmental sciences and related disciplines. Students can engage with energy questions through coursework, laboratory exercises and research projects.
SUA also offers professional and lifelong-learning activities, including course modules on energy and renewable resources and the role of energy sources in the circular economy. Public lectures and specialist events extend discussion of technological options beyond enrolled students.
Public Engagement and Community Activities
The university shares expertise on renewable energy and energy efficiency through public lectures, professional workshops and cooperation with businesses and institutions. Such activities connect scientific evidence with practical decisions about energy technologies and sustainable rural development.
The Path to Sustainability workshop and related outreach activities provide opportunities to discuss renewable-energy solutions in the context of broader environmental and societal challenges.
Sustainable Campus Operations
SUA monitors energy consumption across its buildings and facilities and implements measures intended to improve efficiency. Relevant activities include energy-saving technologies, building modernisation and on-site renewable generation.
Institutional monitoring recorded total energy consumption of 17,734.45 MWh in 2025, compared with 17,630.46 MWh in 2024. Energy produced by the university's own renewable installations was reported as 32.85 MWh in 2025. These figures distinguish total energy use from electricity generated on site and should not be conflated with the university's complete renewable-energy supply.
Campus modernisation and smart-building measures provide further opportunities to reduce unnecessary energy use. Any numerical claims concerning smart-building area, energy savings or renewable-energy capacity require confirmation of their definitions and reporting boundaries.
