The Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra, through the applicant - the National Agricultural and Food Center in Lužianky - participated as a partner in the Call for applications for a non-repayable financial contribution to support long-term strategic research - Healthy Food and Environment (call code OPVaI-VA / DP / 2018 / 1.2.1-06).

The result of the effort is an approved demand-oriented project entitled Sustainable smart farming systems taking into account the challenges of the future - SMARTFARM (project code: ITMS2014 +: 313011W112, NACE project: 72190 - Other research and experimental development on natural sciences and engineering).

"The project is focused on creating a knowledge and innovation base for sustainable and competitive primary agricultural production. Its goal is to provide advanced tools for creating tailor-made solutions and to generate original scientific knowledge, innovative approaches and technological solutions potentially applicable in practice, "said M. Főldešiová. She added that fourteen research activities of the project (independent research and development, industrial research and experimental development) vertically covers the agri-food production chain from resources to production (soil, plants, animals, food, biomass) to the design of innovative products, utilization / processing options to pilot models, functional prototypes to increase added value primary production and efficient use of natural biomass resources with the implementation of the principles of circular economy and bioeconomy. "The project will create conditions for strengthening research cooperation. Project implementation is allocated proportionally in the regions of Slovakia, some activities will be implemented directly in less developed regions."

Completion of the main activities of the project is planned for March 2023.
