Rectors of six Slovak universities were appointed on May 26 at the Presidential Palace in Bratislava by the President of the Slovak Republic Ivan Gašparovič. Three of them carried this position before, other three universities will have a new rector.
The rectors re-elected by their academic senates represent the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra – Prof. Peter Bielik, University of Zilina - Prof. Tatiana Čorejová, and the University of St . Cyril and Methodius in Trnava - Prof. Jozef Matúš.
A four year period is ahead of Prof. Peter Šimko, Slovak Medical University in Bratislava, Prof. Ľubomír Zelnický, Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra and Prof. Edita Hekelová, Vysoká škola manažmentu in Trenčín.
All new rectors were given appointment letters by the President who believes that rectors were given confidence by academic senates because they showed their human and personal skills, their high status in pedagogy, science and management. "Your duty and mission is to search for the ratio between education and the need for its application. It is important that universities are looking for cooperation with the practice" said the President.
