21.02.2013In the period of February 17-22 the representatives of various provinces of the Republic of Iraq led by Mr. Abaas Mohammed Fadil of the Ministry of Regional Affairs visited the city of Nitra. The delegation was accompanied by H.E. Ambassador of Iraq to Slovakia Mr. Matheel Al Sabti and attaché of the Iraqi Embassy Mr. Hassan Al Shmailawim. The group was welcomed by the Nitra Mayor Jozef Dvonč, Vice Mayor Štefan Štefek and Ján Vančo, Head of the Regional Office Igor Kršiak, the chief architect Jozef Hrozenský and the SUA rector prof. Peter Bielik as well as the director of Agrokomplex - Exhibition František Ďurkovič and others.

During the visit at our university our guests were interested to find our about SUA faculties, offices and well as study possibilities within the study programmes provided in English. During the welcome speech the delegation was informed by the Rector Prof. Peter Bielik that the intensive cooperation with Iraq began in 2010, during the visit of the cultural attaché Dr. Jaafar Hamad Qader. "In 2011 - 2012 we welcomed six students from Iraq," said the rector. He added that the SUA signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Arab League two years ago, with the aim to protect and stabilize water resources in the arid areas of Arabic countries. "Our professors have visited some areas in Iraq. Cereal cultivation in different parts of the world was an important part of their scientific work ". The rector noted that in 60 years of SUA history several students from Iraq and neighbouring countries graduated from our university. "We would like to continue in this tradition," he said.
The guests declared their interest in cooperation in education and research, joint projects between SUA and Iraqi universities, as well as cooperation in the construction and development of Iraq. A tour of the university campus and a visit of our assembly hall concluded the visit.
