In the framework of lifelong learning and on-demand of Association of Small and Independent Breweries in Slovakia, Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Sciences in Nitra applied for accreditation of Malting and brewing course. Thirty-eight graduates who were interested in requalification whether doing business in this field successfully completed above mentioned course on 21st - 22nd March. The faculty dean prof. Ján Tomáš gave them the certificate of course completing.
The course guarantor doc. Helena Frančáková with the faculty vice dean Ing. Ladislav Kovács, founder of Kaltenecker brewing company (representative of the Association of Small and Independent Breweries in Slovakia) and Žigmund Tóth from Department of Storing and Processing of Plant Products participated in certificate ceremony as well.
During the six-week course participants learned about the requirements for raw materials used in the malting and brewing and they also got familiar with brewing technology, sanitation and microbiology. For those who want to run a business in the malting and brewing industry Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Sciences (FBFS) prepares advanced 40 hours course in September 2013. Graduates will receive a certificate of the Slovak Chamber of Tradesmen after practice completing. Cooperation between FBFS and different institutions from this industry is crucial as there is a trend in Slovakia towards establishing more small breweries year after year. These days there are twenty-six small breweries in Slovakia and two more set up their business every year. The SUA has its own microbrewery where it is possible to brew a beer so the course will be linked with practical activities in the future as well.
