Official opening of Town Fruit Orchard in Nitra (realized by SUA in Nitra)

On 28 October 2018, Nitra city oficially opened its Fruit Orchard located at the site of the Agrokomplex. Orchard has been established as result of cooperation between city of Nitra and Faculty of Hoticulture and Landscape Engineering of Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra. Its main purpose is to serve as source of healthy organic fruit, recreational and educational zone for Nitra citizens.
SUA rector, assoc. prof. Ing. Klaudia Halászová, stated that the orchard will operate in bio-mode that takes into account the most modern environmental trends in fruit crop production. In total, more than 950 fruit trees will be planted.
Multiple subjects will be responsible for the care of the orchard. Expert management and supervising will be under FHLE - the main designer Ing. Ján Mezey, PhD., from the Department of Fruit Growing, Viticulture and Enology. The professional work, especially rusting and shaping, will be partly provided by faculty students in the field exercises and courses, and promised by the SAG (Slovak Association of Gardeners) in Nitra under supervision of Ing. Peter Farkaš. Agro-technical measures, especially mowing green parts and soil care, will be in the hands of the city in cooperation with SUA.
