Students from EU countries
After arrival in the SR the EU students must register at the foreigners department of the local police not later than 3 days after
their arrival. Here they must submit the following documents (not older than 90 days):
- a valid passport
- 3 passport photos (3 x 3,5 cm)
- confirmation about accommodation in the Slovak Republic - an agreement with an owner or user of a flat, confirmation by a university dormitory, etc.
- health insurance - must be obtained before the arrival in the SR. Insurance must be valid for the entire EU (SR).
- before the end of the study, the student must ask for the termination of his/her residence permit in the SR at the foreigners police office.
If required by the institution, it is necessary to submit a criminal record of the SR as well as of a particular home country.
Students from non-EU countries
Before the arrival in the SR:
Students coming to study from non-EU countries must contact respective Slovak embassy or consulate in their home country
before arriving in the SR. The Slovak embassy will provide them with the necessary information regarding the documents
eeded for their study stay in the SR. The list of Slovak embassies and consulates in different countries is available at
the web site http://www.foreign.gov.sk/En/index.html
After arrival in the SR:
Students from non-EU countries must ask for a temporary residence permit. In order to do that they must submit, within three days,
the following documents to a foreigners police office (documents must not be older than 90 days):
- a valid travel document,
- 3 photos (3 x 3,5 cm),
- a criminal record of the SR as well as of their home country - only if it is required
- A confirmation (issued by a respective school and signed by the dean, vice-dean) proving that the student has enough funds, at least in the amount of a minimum wage, for every month of his/her expected study stay, or a confirmation that he/she has been granted a scholarship, or an account statement made for the applicant's name
- Letter of Acceptance for study in the Slovak Republic,
- confirmation of accommodation - agreement with an owner or user of a flat, confirmation from a university dormitory about the student's permanent stay,
- Health insurance - it must be obtained after the arrival in the SR. The insurance will be issued by a Slovak insurance company after the submission of the temporary residence permit issued to the student by the foreigners police office
- upon his/her arrival in the Slovak Republic, the foreign student will have to be examined at a health centre for foreign diseases to confirm that he/she does not suffer from any infectious illness (its spreading is a criminal act in Slovakia). Confirmation is to be submitted within 10 days after the arrival in the Slovak Republic. The price of medical examination is app. 58 EUR (March 2005) and is to be paid directly in the hospital.
- the student must notify the foreigners police office before leaving back for home.
