The Ambassador of Belarus Visited SUA

Rector of Slovak Agricultural University in Nitra, Dr.h.c. prof. Ing. Peter Bielik, PhD., welcomed Igor Leshchenya who is Ambassador of Belarus in Slovakia. The aim of this visit was a discussion about possible cooperation between SUA in Nitra and Belarusian universities and research institutions.
The meeting was also attended by prof. RNDr. Zdenka Gálová, CSc. (Vice-Rector for Education and ECTS), prof. Ing. Ján Gaduš, PhD. (Vice-Rector for Science and Research), prof. Dr. Ing. Elena Horská (Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management), Ing. Mária Bihuňová, PhD. (Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Horticulture and Landscape Engineering), and Mgr. Vladislav Valach (Head of the International Relations Office).
Rector, prof. Peter Bielik, informed Igor Leshchenya about university´s existing contacts with Belarusian higher education institutions that have been developing since 1960s and emphasized the need for finding new possibilities of cooperation. He also described specific activities in which SUA in Nitra participates together with the universities in Russia and Ukraine, and those that could act as an example for future relations with Belarusian universities. These include particularly cooperation within the programs Tempus, Horizon 2020, organization of summer schools, accreditation of the joint degree study programs where Double Degree Diploma and Joint Degree Diploma are awarded, and others. SUA Rector stressed out wide possibilities of cooperation with the SUA Research center AgroBioTech and Centers of Excellence focused on biodiversity, integrated river basin management and soil sustainability, as well as white-green technology. “SUA in Nitra has two accredited top research teams in the area of plant and livestock production that are a guarantee of the highest quality outputs”, said Rector prof. Bielik. He also mentioned a possibility of joint research in the field of bioenergy and he added that “we are green university that is opened to all topics and fields”.
The Belarusian guest described the perspectives of cooperation with the National Academy of Sciences in Minsk and other institutions, especially in the field of agriculture. “The Republic of Belarus is a part of the Bologna process and therefore, we are interested also in cooperation in the field of student and lecturers mobilities”, said the Ambassador. At the end, the Ambassador informed SUA about his intention to establish partnership between Nitra and one of the Belarusian cities that he already discussed during the meeting with the Mayor Jozef Dvonč in March.
