New horizons of cooperation with Nelson Mandela University in South Africa

On October 31, SUA Rector Dr.h.c. prof. Ing. Peter Bielik, PhD. received prof. Igor Litvine, Director of the Centre of Expertise in Forecasting at Nelson Mandela University in South Africa at the university campus. Negotiations aimed at preparing the ground for future Erasmus + Capacity Building project cooperation were also attended by SUA Vice-Rector for Science and Research Prof. Ing. Ján Gaduš, PhD., as well as by representatives of the Faculty of Economics and Management, the AgroBioTech Research Centre and the International Relations Office of SUA in Nitra.

At the beginning of the meeting prof. Igor Litvine briefly presented the university's scientific and educational activities as well as the possibilities of cooperation. SUA Rector Dr.h.c. prof. Ing. Peter Bielik informed about the strategy of internationalization and numerous international cooperation of the SUA in various areas, and the Vice-Dean of FEM doc. Ing. Natália Turčeková, PhD. followed up on the topic and proposed bioeconomy and biosciences as key cooperation topics within the planned project.

Representatives of both universities agreed on further steps to develop cooperation and prepare a project plan, which should start with the Memorandum of Cooperation in the near future. The consortium of project partners will consist of universities from Slovakia, South Africa and Ukraine, where prof. Igor Litvine comes from, where he graduated his university studies and where he still continues developing cooperation in science and research.

The meeting was followed by a visit of the AgroBioTech Research Centre led by a centre researcher Dr. Oksana Ryabchenko, PhD. who presented to prof. Litvine several interesting laboratories and familiarized him with the focus and specifics of this unique university research workplace.
