VUA International Symposium

The international symposium „Sustainable Development and Agribusiness “ that took place on December 6, 2012 at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences- SGGW, Poland, offered an interesting programme prepared by leading specialists in the field of sustainability as a part of the project Sustainability in Agrisector of the V4 Countries and Cooperating Regions financed by the International Visegrad Fund.
The international symposium „Sustainable Development and Agribusiness “ that took place on December 6, 2012 at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences- SGGW, Poland, offered an interesting programme prepared by leading specialists in the field of sustainability as a part of the project Sustainability in Agrisector of the V4 Countries and Cooperating Regions financed by the International Visegrad Fund.
A plenary session was opened by the president of the Visegrad University Association and rector of Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra, Prof. Peter Bielik along with the VUA vice-president prof. Janusz Zmija, rector of UR Cracow, Prof. Wolodzimierz Sady, vice-rector of SGGW, Prof. Marek S. Szyndel and the dean of the Faculty of Economic Sciences of SGGW, Dr. hab. Jaroslaw Golebiewski. The session was moderated by Prof. Elena Horská, SUA vice-rector for International and Public Relations and Prof. Edward Majeski (SGGW).
A wide range of topics and well prepared lectures in parallel sessions provided valuable insights on all aspects of sustainability ranging from policy issues and development strategies to sustainability from the perspective of farming and agribusiness. Selected papers from the symposium will be published in the “Visegrad Journal on Bioeconomy and Sustainable Development” in April 2013 as well as in Scientific Annals of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development and the monograph Sustainable development and agribusiness.
We are glad that 14 universities from 10 V4, EU and other countries represented the Visegrad University Association at this very successful event. We would also like to thank main organisers, the Faculty of Economic Sciences of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences- SGGW for their hard work and efforts taken.
