Title of the project: Comparison of the impact Bt maize on entomofauna in the conditions of Czech and Slovak Republic

Project description: The important objective of the project will be to identity any direct or indirect, immediate or delayed adverse effects of GM plants on the environment. The result will be used to develop the methodology for determining the negative impacts of GM plants cultivation on the basis of key species and contribute to the preparation of the soil species database exploitable also for the other countries in the EU.

Title of the project: Grape and grape by-product as a sources of tannins n animal nutrition
Project description: Research aim of the project is to analyse grape and grape by-products as a tannins source in animal nutrition. Beneficial project output will be the comparision on the tannin levels in grape and by-products in Austria and Slovakia. In each country, during the experiment, there were grapes and grape by-products sampling for tannins analyses.

Title of the project: Genomic indicators of Pinzgau cattle diversity

Project description: The Convention of Biological Diversity held in Montreal 2008 defines biodiversity as “the variability among living organisms from all sources including, inter alia, terrestrial, marine and other aquatic ecosystems and the ecological complexes of which they are part, this includes diversity within species, between species, and ecosystems”. This convention recognized the variability in agricultural animal and plant species and breeds as a a subset of diversity with special characteristic.

Title of the project: Strigolactones: biological roles and applications

Title of the project: Sustainable management of Ambrosia artemisiifolia in Europe

Project description: Common ragweed (Ambrosia artemisiifolia) is one of the most prominent invasive alien species in Europe. Its pollen grains are noxious aerollargens, it is an important agricultural weed and also occupies large on-crop areas with a range that is likely to accelerate under climate change. As a result, long-term and widely applicable options are required for its sustainable management, as well as the coordination of institutions involved in Ambrosia research and management throughout Europe.

Title of the project: Modifying plants to produce interfering RNA

Project description: Methods to exploit plant defence mechanisms or changing plant metabolism by RNA silencing show great potential. Interfering RNA can be used to improve plant composition while enhancing levels of beneficial nutrients, and to improve plant productivity by suppressing undesirable traits and switching resources to more beneficial quality and yield traits. Project includes: examination of the specificity of the selected miRNAs and their impacts on both target and non-target/off-target systems; developing specific risk assessment and risk management guidelines which relate specific effects of the miRNAs on food, feed and the environment and understanding the modes of transmission, uptake, systemic spread and degradation of miRNAs.

Title of the project: Genomics, transcriptomis, digestomics and mouse allergy of sensitization to allergenic lipid transfer proteins

Project description: This project aims to study the purified non-specific lipid transfer proteins from peach. Their physicochemical characteristics will be assessed as well as molecular dynamics and ligand binding assays. IgE based in vitro assays will be performed and allergic sensitization will be assessed by mouse experiments. Expression analysis will be performed for the gene of Pru p 3 allergen in different commercially used peach varieties. ELISA test will be applied in the screening of the allergenic potential of different processed baby foods containing peaches.

Title of the project: Improving Allergy Risk Assessment Strategy for New Food Proteins

Project description: The new multi-disciplinary scientific network will improve strategies to predict the allergenicity of novel or modified proteins or proteins from novel sources with novel and innovative approaches that have not previously been identified. This will allow the transfer of scientific advances to European food companies to develop safe products, advise food safety authorities on better risk assessment strategies and change public opinion on the safety of novel sustainable food.

Title of the project: A new Network of European BioImage Analysts to advance life science imaging
Project number: COST Action CA15124
This Action is a programme for establishing a network of BioImage Analysts (BIAlysts), in order to maximize the impact of advances in imaging technology on the Life-Sciences (LSc), and to boost the productivity of bioimaging-based research projects in Europe. BIAlysts have recently emerged in various research institutions but these experts are still not well recognised in the LSc community. They are specialised in customising image analysis (IA) workflows by assembling and automating multiple computational tools, and by interacting with Software developers and Life Scientists to facilitate IA. The Action aims to provide a stronger identity to BIAlysts by organising a new type of meeting fostering interactions between all stakeholders including: Life scientists, BIAlysts, microscopists, developers and private sector. It will collaborate with European Imaging research infrastructures to set up best practice guidelines for IA. The Action plans to create an interactive database for BioImage analysis tools and workflows with annotated image sample datasets, to help matching practical needs in biological problems with software solutions. It will also implement a benchmarking platform for these tools. To increase the overall level of IA expertise in the LSc, the Action proposes a novel training programme with three levels of courses, releasing of open textbooks, and offering of a short term scientific missions programme to foster collaborations, IA-technology access, and knowledge transfer for scientists and specialists lacking these means. This Action will support the long-term scientific goals of European science and industry by bridging essential fields of scientific excellence.
